Billionaires Impeachment Ad After World Series Game One

Today, I was watching game 1 of the World Series (Go Dodgers) and Tom Steyer’s (a billionaire) impeachment ad comes on my TV screen. Where he’s promoting a campaign to impeach the current, sitting President, President Donald J. Trump.

The ad is basically a series of situational images of President Trump along with a voiceover by Steyer. Steyer makes statements that are actually his opinions sound like facts. Well, maybe President Trump did say them but the ad keeps its accusations rather vague. Let me give you a few examples, first, the voiceover says, he’s (Trump) brought us to the brink of nuclear war, not exactly true, he doesn’t want North Korea to provoke us and force our hand into a potential nuclear war.

Another claim is that the President obstructed justice and the FBI but doesn’t say how. Yet another claim says he violated the constitution but again the voiceover doesn’t explain how. Actually, that claim may be referring to the travel ban? I’m not sure.

Last but not least, the ad claims that President Trump threatened to shut down a news organization. While true, it isn’t what Trump said exactly. Trump actually threatened to have NBC’s broadcast license revoked. Can he actually do it? The short answer is probably not. Anyone can file a challenge with the FCC to the renewal of a broadcast license, in this case, NBC. However, legally that’s all he can do since he doesn’t have any authority to direct or control the FCC’s actions. You can read more about that in this CNET article.

Steyer ends that by proclaiming that the facts he mentioned are more than enough to launch impeachment proceedings. His call to action is to encourage our representatives to do so along with signing his petition.

In my opinion, all this ad does is show that Steyer is a billionaire that isn’t afraid of using his wealth to try and influence the American people. What do you think? Place your comments in the comment section below.
